FIFA, Netherlands and Germany: USA Slaying Soccer Giants

In just a few short weeks the United States has taken down FIFA, the Netherlands, and world champ Germany. Can American Soccer ever top that? Short of a quarterfinal result at the next World Cup (where in 'Putin' will that be?), this is the glory we can revel in over the next few years. However, before we answer these hard hitting questions; let's have a look at how all this unfolded.

Here's how it all went down:

May 27, 20015: DOJ drops a bomb in the form of an unsealed 47-count indictment sending the rats scurrying across Switzerland and around the globe. In all,14 world soccer figures, including officials of FIFA, are rung up with a litany of charges usually reserved for characters in a Scorsese film: racketeering, bribery, money laundering and fraud.

May 27: FIFA big shots are led away in cuffs, plucked from a posh Zurich hotel. Swiss authorities raid the FIFA headquarters looking for evidence linked to the awarding of the 2018 and 2022 World Cups.

May 28, 2015: Argentinian madman Maradona proclaims: I knew I wasn't crazy.

May 28: The US attorney general charges that FIFA officials took millions of dollars cash in return for helping to win the vote for South Africa to host the 2010 World Cup. Busted! Everyone'd looking for cover.

May 29, 2015: Despite looming scandal and embarrassing details emerging, Blatter re-elected as president of FIFA.

May 31, 2015: Disgraced form FIFA Vice President and Trinidadian -Loon Jack Wagner cites satirical article from the Onion about Americans strong arming FIFA.

June 2, 2015: Blatter decides to resign as FIFA President - but first he says he will help clean up soccer. Say what?

June 3: FIFA's #2, Jérôme Valcke, knew about the South Africa payment to disgraced former Concacaf chief Jack Warner.
